Trailer for Stephen Frears’s film starring Daniel Day-Lewis. My Beautiful Laundrette is a 1985 British comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears from a screenplay by Hanif Kureishi. The story is set in London during the period when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister of Britain, as shown through the complex—and often comical—relationships between members of the Asian and White community. The plot tackles many polemical issues, such as homosexuality, racism, and England’s economic and political policy during the 1980s.

My Beautiful Laundrette was nominated in 1987 for a single Academy Award – Best Original Screenplay, by Hanif Kureishi. It lost to Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters. Kureishi was also nominated for a 1986 BAFTA award. The screenplay received an award from the American National Society of Film Critics.

Betty Blue is a 1986 French film. Its original French title is 37°2 le matin, which means “37.2°C in the Morning”. (37.2°C [99°F] is the normal morning temperature of a pregnant woman.) The film was directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix and stars Béatrice Dalle as Betty. It is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Philippe Djian.
The film received both a BAFTA and Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 1986, as well as winning a César Award for Best Poster. In 1992 it was awarded the Golden Space Needle of the Seattle International Film Festival.

Green Street is a 2004 British/American independent drama film about football hooliganism in England. It was directed by Lexi Alexander and stars Elijah Wood and Charlie Hunnam. In the United States and Australia, the film is called Green Street Hooligans, while in the United Kingdom it has the title Green Street after initially being called Hooligans. In other countries, it is called Football Hooligans or just Hooligans. In the film, an American college student (Matt Buckner — played by Elijah Wood) falls in with a violent West Ham football firm (the Green Street Elite) run by his brother-in-law’s brother and is morally transformed by their commitment to each other. The story and screenplay were developed by former hooligan turned author Dougie Brimson.
Throughout the film, the Green Street Elite fight other “firms” such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Yid Army, Birmingham City’s Zulus, Manchester United’s Red Army and Millwall’s Bushwackers.
A sequel called Green Street 2: Stand Your Ground, was released straight-to-video in 2009.

The Man from Nowhere is a 2010 South Korean film starring Won Bin and directed by Lee Jeong-beom. As of October 31, 2010, it was Korea’s highest grossing film of the year.

“When I first saw the trailer to this movie, I wanted to go see it but wasn’t like super hyped up for it. It basically looked like the Korean version of “LEON: The Professional”. But this movie is like the Korean version of “Man on Fire” with fight sequences that are similar to the “Bourne” movies. I heard this film really skyrocketed Won Bin’s popularity, especially in Korea and I could tell why. He really is a badass in this movie and his charisma is overflowing in this movie. One of the girl in the audience couldn’t help but say “he is so cool” in Korean during the scene where Won Bin’s character is driving angrily while on the phone with the bad guys while showing some intimidating emotion. The plot isn’t super original or anything, basically “Man on Fire” with a better flow and more dark and gritty with better action in my opinion. Overall this film was a lot better than I expected and also kept my interest from beginning to end while also being entertained. The style of this movie reminded me of “A Bittersweet Life” in a good way which is a plus with saturated colors leaning towards the dark and blue. Some people might get a bit irritated by the constant camera shot to Won Bin’s face while he takes a pose like in some magazine or something. But I could tell it’s to sell the movie to female viewers as well. Excellent casting, pretty good story with some slick action scenes make this movie really worth seeing, there is something for guys and girls.”

In Brother, Claude speaks mostly in American-English with some occasional Japanese.This film marks the first collaboration between Kitano and composer Joe Hisaishi, who had previously created the acclaimed soundtracks of many of Hayao Miyazaki’s anime, including Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Hisaishi would go on to compose the OSTs for all of Kitano’s films until Dolls, after which their collaboration ended.
