Ramble-Ations at Brava Theatre

dloPerformance artist D’Lo grew up gay in a Hindu Sri Lankan family in Los AngelesCounty while immersed in Hip-Hop youth culture. Reflecting upon what it means to be a person of color, to be gay, and to be from an immigrant minority, D’Lo raises a much larger question about what it means to live in America, where one’s national, ethnic, and cultural lineage is constantly challenged by assimilation and normalization. Ramble-Ations reminds us of the cultural tensions and synergies that define and affirm us as a nation.

congrats to judy ly and winners of the anh oi mystery contest bruce lee hello kitty USB challenge thingee!!!

well you gotta watch the youtubey to find out don’t cha? so at first i was going to use a dartboard and print everyones facebook faces out. problem: my dartboard is isn’t big enough. durr. so instead, of who’s face a dart would land on, i instead used a more futuristic technological way of randomly finding the winners. i youtubed it as proof of randomness/fairness/no way i could repeat/fake what i was doing.

to recap, we had people at first choose who they thought was the mystery girl. and well, let’s just say 80% of the people got it wrong. which is not a bad thing except some people might have an unfair advantage. so then i added, just put ‘i love bruce lee or hello kitty’. that much waaaay easier. lol.

it was hard finding who the mystery girl was.  i didn’t even know who it was!!  it was one of those, after someone tells you who it is you go….oh yeaaaaaaa. durrr. to give yourself a durr moment, go back to the post here:

http://neaato.com/2010/03/04/anh-oi-mystery-girl-contest/

we had answers from all over the board, even some that were not on the list. hey, thinking out of the box, why not. some even though it was photographer nadine who took the photos.  however, hats off goes to one contestant who decided to PHOTOSHOP 2 different images and put them together. however, they STILL couldn’t figure it out.

they took this photo:

and combined it w/ the bottom of this photo:

and got this:

now that is pretty damn hardcore lol. but like i said, they still didn’t know. and like i said, i didn’t even know! lol

edit: the photoshopper genius was Kuroi Samui

ESPN Outside the Lines does story on Santa Anita and Japanese Internment camps.

A Time and a Place: Santa Anita

Santa Anita Park, once home to thoroughbred legends like Seabiscuit, was transformed into an internment camp in 1942, when, in the midst of World War II, nearly 20,000 Japanese-Americans were held prisoner and deemed threats to American security. Tom Rinaldi chronicles the story of four internees, among those forced to live in the track’s stables, and their connection with jockey Corey Nakatani, the 2008 Santa Anita Derby winner.

“You were treated as if you are some kind of criminal, and yet you didn’t know what you had did that was so wrong.” — June Aochi Berk

“The barbed wires went all the way around, very high. The guard towers with the guns pointed inward. It was truly a concentration camp. It was not a place, as they told us, that they were keeping us there for our protection from the America public.” Min Tonai

“My grandfather was here during the war, he was interned here. I believe it was one of the first stalls It was packed inside the stalls with a lot of Japanese, and it wasn’t something he was really comfortable talking about.” — Corey Nakatani

Daniel Henney chooses facebook mate by trolling facebook updates

ORANGE COUNTY, CA— More than 90 percent of asians females on facebook have asked for Actor Daniel Henney on their facebook statuses. So far, there has been over 10,000 status updates that request for wanting “Henney’s babies”.  Daniel Henney’s agent announced on Sunday that Henney, the actor on that one show, has finally chosen his ‘soul mate’ by finding her on facebook.

During Henney’s press conference during a break of his new TV reality show called “Daniel Henney goes to Outback”, he confirmed that he has been ‘trolling facebook’ and looking for anyone that has used or tagged the words ‘Daniel’, ‘Henney’, ‘is god’ and ‘want his babies’ under their ‘most used words’ application. Users who were fans and used these words the most would be put on Henney’s ‘good side’ list. When asked about his bad side list, Henney laughed, “Oh yea, I’m Daniel Henney, I guess I don’t have a bad side”.

“We feel badly for all other asian woman out there,” Henney’s agent said. “He’s been trolling for countless hours looking for that perfect fan. It’s not easy being Henney.” Henney’s agent has released this photo of the facebook fan that Henney has chosen from his own “most status updates with Daniel Henney facebook app”. When Henney finally saw the photo of his favorite facebook fan, he nonchalantly said “that’s probably how many Henney babies she wants to have with me, happens all the time.”

“It’s impossible to estimate the impact of all this, but it will almost certainly mean the loss of most asian female fans, said Henney’s agent. “I also hope for the safety for this Henney facebook fan, for her mind will surely explode”, he added.

Comic artist Mike Choi (“Uncanny X-Men,” “Witchblade”) shares his in-process images from Munn cover

“I think the main pitch was to put a spin on a photoshoot with Olivia and make it more fun, and kind of make it more interesting visually. I mean, I don’t know about most guys, but I’m getting tired of just seeing stunningly attractive women in the underwear. I want to see more cartoon animals. No? Just me? I mean, sweet, hot women in underwear! Beer me.”
