listen to the podcast. here’s my ‘comments’ to the comments:

“wow Frank Chin….settle down “Optimist only sees doughnut. Pessimist sees hole.”

>>>maybe because, all that is left after everyone ate the doughnut is the hole!!!

“Can’t we just take the Charlie Chan
movies for what they are: entertainment.
Nothing more and nothing less.”
>>>WTF, black face is entertainment too? it was right?

“You can’t discount someone who wrote a book on, oh, John Keats, just because you want more people to pay attention to Julius Caesar. (This is a horrible analogy, but seriously, I would/could not have come up with something like “You must introduce Guan-gong to the West!” as an antidote to the image of the aphorism-spouting, yellowface Chan)”

>>now everyone is writing about guan-gong. frank chin knows what he’s doing

“I was hoping the host would stuff a sock in Frank’s mouth. Good Lord, he’s angry.”

>>>you think blacks wouldn’t be mad at blackface? really?

“Please get this overly-passionate man off the air.”
>>>overly passionate as a negative. wow, seriously?

you guys just don’t ‘get it’ lol
go put on blackface and make a ’smart detective show’ and see if anyone gets mad

go watch ‘what’s wrong w/ frank chin’ by curtis choy

one of my fav movies ever. great doc!

hip hop artist – mondega – for the people – album drops 10-1-10

Artist Summary

Genres:
Hip Hop – Soul – Progressive Rap

Independent Label:
Traysetterz Music Group

Artist Bio

Mondega is a hip-hop artist whose music is well acclaimed by human- rights activists, universities and Asian youths throughout the United States, Canada and Southeast Asia. As an up-coming and influential emcee, his music is described as uplifting and inspiring. Mondega uses hip-hop as a tool to speak on behalf of the misguided Asian youths living in America and for his people suffering back home in Southeast Asia. His music is well-respected because it empowers and raises awareness about issues rarely spoken about in today’s Asian hip-hop scenes.
Bom “Mondega” Siu was born on October 14, 1987 in the 2nd district of Gia Lai, in the central highlands of Vietnam. As a young boy growing up, he helped his impoverished family by spending his days roaming and hustling the streets. He would gamble the little money he made playing bau cua ca cop, a Vietnamese game with three dices. Being raised through poverty, political corruption and genocide, Mondega lived and experienced what most people took for granted. The idea of becoming a hip-hop artist never existed in his mind, but everything changed when his family fled to the United States as refugees seeking asylum in 1996.

More About Mondega

While living in a refugee housing community in Raleigh, North Carolina, Mondega, his older brother and two sisters went to school as poor immigrant kids trying to adjust in America. They lived and played in a neighborhood where drugs and crime were normal albeit a small step up from the living conditions in Gia Lai and the Saigon slums. Mondega first experienced music when his older brother formed a Montagnard band called Bajaraka. Making friends was a challenge in Raleigh for Mondega, so he began going to Bajaraka’s weekend practices and became a helper and a guest singer. While attending community events and performing on stage, he noticed how separated the

youths were against their own culture and identity. As a young man adapting and learning America’s cultures, he watched his friends joined  gangs  and  sold  drugs. Through Bajaraka, he wanted to change that factor, but Montagnard music was not enough to reach out to the crowd he wanted.

Hip-hop first gained his attention when a friend played Tupac, Wu-Tang Clan and DMX’s records on his stereo. At first, it sounded odd to him, but as he became fluent in English, this weird sounding music became the very tool he is using now to reach out to his youths. Life in America have never been a walk in the park for Mondega. Over the years, Mondega have shared the same struggles as his listeners. No matter what is going on, hip-hop is his form of therapy and an escape from a world full of adversities.

Mondega’s overall goal is to reach out to everyone who can relate, and empower them through peace, understanding, philosophies and hip-hop. Mondega speaks the truth in the purest format with creative melodies, catchy hooks, and self-reflecting lyrics.

His forthcoming LP, For the People, is his third and most personal album to date.

tigerwenn2924200.jpg

This morning, the silence was finally broken as People Magazine released their interview with Elin Nordegren, which she deemed to be her first and only interview about the terrible public scandal involving her husband’s repeated infidelity.

Now, Tiger Woods has released a statement in response to her her interview. The statement reads:

“This is a very painful, personal and private time for our family. Throughout this entire time, Elin has shown unwavering concern and support for our children. She is a wonderful mother. I know that the two of us will do everything we can to help our children adjust to this new family situation.

We both cherish the time we can spend with Sam and Charlie. Whether it’s taking Sam to school or hitting balls with Charlie on the range, nothing gives me more enjoyment than these simple pleasures. We have two special kids, and I’m going to enjoy every minute with them.

Personally, I am learning to balance family and golf. My children come first and always will, but I also appreciate golf more than ever. I understand how important the fans and the game are to me. I know how lucky I am to do what I do for a living, and I am deeply grateful for everyone who has supported me.”

7 Green College Campus Programs Making the Grade

green college initiatives photo Photo via Jessica.Tam @ Flickr A single college or university can produce an almost immeasurable amount of waste each year — and when you multiply that by all of the schools in the country, and the world, those numbers add up. But some schools are taking their conservation efforts beyond recycling bins and CLF bulbs with everything from on-campus community gardens and programs that reach out to student renters to bike incentive programs for commuters — and that’s success you can count on….Read the full story on TreeHugger

“Women, on average, talk on their phones 22% more than men, and send an average of 601 texts a month, as opposed to 447 for men.”

Black People Call and Text Way More Than Everyone Else

According to a new year-long study by The Nielsen Company, black people use more voice minutes and send more text messages than any other race. Like, way more.

Black People Call and Text Way More Than Everyone Else
The new study found that African-Americans averaged 1,300 voice minutes a month, far outpacing Hispanics (826 minutes/mo.), Asians and Pacific Islanders (692 m/mo.), and Whites (647 m/mo.).

Black People Call and Text Way More Than Everyone Else
Same story with texting. Blacks sent and received an average of 780 text messages a month; Hispanics 767; Whites 566; and Asians/Pacific Islanders 384 texts a month.

Presumably all of this will be very useful in the burgeoning field of Black Twitter scholarship.

The Nielsen study also found that women, on average, talk on their phones 22% more than men, and send an average of 601 texts a month, as opposed to 447 for men. [Nielsen]

whoa artest gives doc rivers the bizness online

doc rivers done done it. he used ‘PERKINS’ as an excuse. punk move. artest don’t play that….lol

“Our starting five against the Lakers starting five has a ring,” Rivers said.

So does that mean the Lakers’ 2010 championship doesn’t count?

Here’s what Artest had to say about that….

RONARTESTCOM: Boston lost to lakers because of Kendrick Perkins injury. What about in 08 when Bynum was injured. What about this year Bynum was injured ..

RONARTESTCOM: What about Kobe played with a broke finger …. What about Ron artest defense When the Boston staff said Ron artest was too slow

RONARTESTCOM: Doc got one million excuses.. Just come back this season a take what you want…

RONARTESTCOM: The lakers with Bynum in the playoffs healthy has not lost The same way whoever whatever hasn’t Let’s not mention the stats on lock down

RONARTESTCOM: Nobody made excuses when Boston came to sac town when I was there and they embarrassed us. Acting like they were hardcore.

RONARTESTCOM: Let’s see if my defense is less effective this year. Come haters Count me out Super dis respectful

RONARTESTCOM: So Boston is going to championship right past Miami?

Kim Tran of Natural Nails charges overweight people an extra 5 dollars lol

…at least it’s not racism? lol. anyhoo, this isn’t new. airlines do this all the time. if you want a second seat, you pay for 2 seats. the problemo here, is that she charged her AFTER, her not knowing lol.

nail salon controversy

WSB-T

A five dollar surcharge is costing a salon owner in DeKalb County, Georgia a big headache. Reported on national news outlets, owner of the Natural Nails nail salon, Kim Tran, charged customer Michelle Fonville an extra $5.00. When Fonville asked why, she was told it was due to her weight. According to the salon owner, the pedicure chairs the salon uses are made to hold only up to 200 lbs and can cost up to $2,400 to fix, thus the overweight fee. But Fonville is calling it discrimination.

The TODAYShow.com reports that Fonville says she was humiliated by the experience. While Fonville’s extra $5.00 was in the end, refunded, the Natural Nails owner told Fonville to take her business elsewhere in the future. For her part, Fonville will and is hoping others will do likewise.

“While hair and nail salons are generally free to price their products and services to fit their particular market, the Professional Beauty Association encourages salons to be customer and service focused,” Marissa Porcaro, the PBA’s marketing and communications manager, told TODAYshow.com. “When considering implementing surcharges or special pricing, salons should really consider the long-term impact on business. A savvy business owner will balance the costs and benefits.”

Porcaro may have hit the nail on the head. While the question of discrimination based on weight might still be not as common or easy to prove as those based on the familiar characteristics of race or religion, business owners may take a more direct lesson from this story. Unless directly linked to identifiable differences (hair salons often charge more to blow-dry longer hair), pricing variations for different types of customers can be legally tough to defend as well as costly in terms of customer goodwill.

One of the best known examples of price discrimination was the practice of dry cleaners charging more to clean women’s blouses than similarly sized and made men’s shirts. This price difference for the same service lead to the state of California passing the Gender Tax Repeal Act of 1995 which prohibited the practice of price discrimination by dry cleaners and other service providers.

In the case of the Natural Nails overweight fee, owner Kim Tran may well be trying to protect her substantial investment in the costly pedicure chairs. However, it is difficult to see how a $5 surcharge, unless charged hundreds of times each day, would help defer the over $2,000 dollar cost of fixing a broken chair. In the long run, the negative publicity the salon is receiving may end up costing much more.”

srsly. dat not dicrimmination! lol
my question is: HOW DID THIS BECOME NEWS? did the lady CALL the news station? wonder how their business is doing after this. or if they have notice or sign that says 5$ extra…

lol, oh please, go tell the airlines not to overcharge lol
